Hydrogen is used in chromatography both as a carrier gas and as a fuel for flame ionization detectors (FID) or flame photometric detectors (FPD). It is either delivered in classical gas cylinders or produced on site. On-site production ensures a continuous supply and allows for small total hydrogen volumes in the lab.
Where the use of cylinder hydrogen is restricted, the HiQ® hydrogen laboratory gas generator is safe to operate, due to its small contained volume (< 40 ml). In case of an internal error, for example, the unit is put on standby by an auto-shut-off procedure. Selectable, multiple alarms alert to unwanted shifts in operating conditions such as low water level, poor water quality, low pressure (leak) and power supply conditions.
Hydrogen - HiQ laboratory gas generators
The HiQ Hydrogen laboratory gas generators are the economical alternative to high pressure gas cylinders in the laboratories. Purities of up to 99.9999% are available and the generators offer silent operation at pressures up to 10.5 barg (155 PSI).The generators require just demineralised or distilled water to produce Hydrogen. No caustic solutions are needed and no cell maintenance is required at all. Hydrogen from the model HiQ H2 FID is the ideal fuel gas for the GC-FID’s or as reactor gas for other types of detectors in gas chromatography. The model HiQ H2 CARRIER has been designed to replace Helium or Nitrogen as carrier gas.
Hydrogen from the HiQ H2 CARRIER generator offers important advantages over Helium and Nitrogen in terms of speed analysis, sensitivity and resolution. Other Hydrogen applications include total hydrocarbon analyzers, sulphur analyzers and air-pollution monitoring systems.
The HiQ H2 FID and the HiQ H2 CARRIER hydrogen generators are “No Maintenance” systems which require little bench space. In addition, HiQ H2 CARRIER is optionally available with cascading and remote control capabilities. These unique and exclusive features open a wide range of new applications.
The HiQ Hydrogen laboratory gas generators are very compact, safe, ergonomic and cost effective. In addition to their high safety (production of Hydrogen only when required), the generators have been designed to meet highest quality and reliability standards.
Hydrogen - Air – HiQ H2 Air FID station
The HiQ H2 Air FID station has been designed to feed GC’s with Hydrogen and Zero Air at the same time. The bench-top unit has a small footprint which is an advantage with limited lab space. The hydrocarbon free Hydrogen flow rate is up to 250 Nml/min. The hydrocarbon free Zero Air flow rate is up to 1500 Nml/min with less than 0.1 ppm of total hydrocarbons.
The HiQ H2 Air FID station is very simple to take into operation: needing only demineralised or distilled water for the Hydrogen part and an external source of compressed air for the Zero Air part.
Hydrogen - HOGEN on-site hydrogen generation systems
The HOGEN® HGS is a proton exchange membrane (PEM) water electrolysis system that uses electricity to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen is produced at 13.8 bar/200 psi pressure without a compressor and at a purity of 99.9995 % continuously and without operator intervention.
The compact HOGEN HGS can be placed on the power plant generator deck or any other indoor non-classified plant area. Due to its unique design, the HOGEN HGS contains virtually no hydrogen, even when generating hydrogen at up to 6Nm3/228 SCF per hour – enough hydrogen to cool power plants as large as 1500 MW.
The HOGEN HGS provides reliable, safe, low-cost hydrogen for generator blanketing and increases safety and security by eliminating hydrogen storage, cylinder handling, and routine hydrogen delivery.
